Coming to
Venice for a holiday is perhaps one of the wisest decisions you will ever make because there are numerous places to visit and things to do and one thing that you can expect is a very unique experience that is far better than what other Italian cities and even European cities could offer.
Venice is built in lands that are swampy and is close to the sea and it has many canals and so a trip through the waterways in the city aboard the Venetian Gondolas is probably the first attraction that will take up your attention for you.
You would do well to begin your exploration of Venice with a visit to the Piazza San Marco or St. Mark’s Square within which there is a lot to see and do and on the one side you will find the Bay of San Marco, which originally was the front gate to Venice city in the ancient times because most people that came to Venice did so via the sea route. In St. Mark’s Square you can find many things to see including the St. Mark’s Basilica, and The Doges Palace which is famous for its high bell tower and besides, St. Mark’s also hosts many important buildings which makes it a very interesting place to see while in Venice.
However, pride of place as far as tourist attractions in
Venice is without a doubt The Grand Canal that stretches from the railway station to where St. Mark’s Square is located. Other places of interest in Venice include the Castello District that gets its name from fortifications from the medieval times and was once the home of Arsenale, Biennale Art Exhibitions and
Public
Gardens.
There is also the Dorsoduro district that is home to
Peggy
Guggenheim
Museum, Accademia and it also still has one among the few Gondola workshops that have still survived even today and there is also the very enervating Campo Santa Margherita situated here. There is also plenty of sightseeing opportunities available in the Cannaregio District which is where there is the Jewish Ghetto and the Ca D’oro, and there are numerous fine restaurants in this rather select residential area of
Venice.
You could also relish paying a visit to The San Polo district of Venice where is located the Rialto Fish Market and also the Friari Church, and this part of Venice was once Venetian Mercantile Empire’s very own Wall Street, and this was where the famed Merchants of Venice did their business dealings.
You also don’t want to miss out on the excellent museums in Venice as too the art galleries among which some of the better known ones include Gallerie dell’Accademia, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Museo Civico Correr, Naval Museum, and Glass Museum at Murano.
