About Iskenderun Iskenderun, in the olden times known in the west as Alexandretta, is located in the
province of
Hatay in the Turkish Mediterranean shoreline. History relates that Alexander the Great founded
Iskenderun in 333 BC. Today, with the appearance of numerous hotels, restaurants, espresso bars lined along the Mediterranean coast,
Iskenderun is acknowledged as an active commercial focus of
Turkey. Because of its location along the Mediterranean region,
Iskenderun is also accepted as a valuable and historic port on the Mediterranean coast of
Turkey.
Iskenderun had a small part in the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and there are more reasons to visit this place aside from the chance of visiting the site shortly featured in the said film.

Payas (Yakacik) Located at the feet of
Mount
Nur, Payas is a pleasant city with its own distinction worthy of a visit. Payas achieved its recognition of being regarded as an essential wharf and resort center because of the creation of the Sokullu Mehmet Pasa Kulliyesi (Complex). Mimar Sinan completed this structure in 1574.

Castle with its 7 bastions and 8 towers is located at the western section of the complex. A military tower named as
Cin
Tower is also valuable of a visit, this structure is built on the highest hill located between the complex and the seashore.
Arsuz Arsuz is a coastal village that has gained commendations of being one of the tourist attractions in the
Iskenderun area. Its pristine characteristics visible in the golden sand beaches and its unpolluted seawater add up to the tranquil and calm environment that slowly paved the way for Arsuz to gain reputation as a recognized tourist spot in the city of
Iskenderun. Other places to see while in Arsuz are

Sutunlu
Harbor,
Outpost

Castle.
When visiting

Village, make sure to visit the Plane tree, which is believed to be at least 2000 years old. This tree stands 20 meters high. Travelers who are interested to see old time Genevian harbor ruins as well as castle ruins can take advantage of visiting the
Issus to satisfy their hungry eyes.
St. Simon Monastery Found in the center of Terk on the supreme peak of Samandag, the St. Simon Monastery is believed to be the column that rised reaching its top peak now at 13 meters, where Simon was believed to have spent his life living within only a circle that he has drawn after chaining himself into a rock. Today, Christianity followers all over the world frequently visit St. Simon Monastery. Though there are still limited attractions in
Iskenderun, it is still recommended to visit this pleasant coastal city when in search for some essential sights that exudes the ambience and ruins of the distant past.
