Athens is the largest city in
Greece, as well as its capital city. The history of
Athens dates back at least 3,000 years, and it was host to the very first modern Olympic Games in 1896.
Athens has been a hub of tourism for many years. It is currently the sixth most visited capital in the world. Over the past ten years, the social amenities have drastically improved. A state of the art airport, and a very effective new motorway have been added.

The Kolonaki district in
Athens lies at the bottom of Lycabettus Hill, and is filled with boutiques for upscale shopping by day, and bars and wonderful restaurants by night. In this area you will have the opportunity to feast on traditional Greek cuisine. Kolonaki is considered one of the more prestigious areas of
Athens. Also located in the area are art galleries and a great number of museums. Plaka is also an area that you will want to visit. It lies just beneath the Acropolis, and is famous for its neoclassical architecture. This is one of the most beautiful areas in the city. There are a large number of tavernas located in the Plaka district, as well as a number of small shops and markets, fleat markets, and cafés. Also, be sure to enjoy the beautiful beaches. Greece is considered to hold some of the most beautiful and clear beaches in the world, and many of these are found in
Athens. The temperature is traditionally Mediterranean, and is wonderful for heading to the beach practically in every season. Some very popular landmarks to visit while in Athens include
