The Julian Alps and the charming natural vistas surrounding it – verdant highlands, deep river gorges, hiking trails and valleys - present some of the tourist locales on earth. Most of these areas can be grouped to be nearer to the four tourist towns of Kranjska Gora, Bled, Bohinj and Bovec. In fact, a major part of these places are within the limits of the
Triglav
National Park – spread over 85 hectares – one of the biggest natural parks in the entire
Europe. And the park itself lays by the side of
Mount
Triglav, towering over an altitude of 2864m, a statistic that makes it the highest mountain range in
Slovenia.
To begin with Kranjska Gora, it is a favored tourist destination by adventure enthusiasts in particular, thanks to the many hiking trails, mountaineering vistas, and cycling paths that crisscross the countryside. Paragliding and fishing are the other outdoor activities here. In winter, the mountain slopes turn into skiing centers where tourists from different parts of
Europe congregate for some interesting winter time activities. World cup contests in Alpine skiing are sometimes hosted here. The night sledging from Vršič and roaming around the snow capped landscape in snowmobile are other popular activities in winter.
In the Planica nearby, ski jumping competitions are held every year. The other popular tourist destination, Bled, is a 1000 year old city located at the edge of the national park, surrounded by mountains, and its signature image is the island with a church in the middle of an Alpine lake. No where in this world where one could find a similar spectacle. Also, Bled is a sought after health tourism center in Slovenia and
Europe, thanks to its many thermal springs and health spas dotting the town. Apart from that, Bled also has numerous natural attractions, lakes, adventure trails such as hikes and mountain treks, fishing opportunities, and other recreational facilities such as golfing, rowing, boating, excellent nightlife in pubs, casinos, etc to name a few.
Bohinj’s fame lies in being the starting point of many exciting and challenging mountain hikes/walking trails in
Slovenia. Stretching from Soteska to Ukanc, the Bohinj valley, with its natural splendor, the towering mountain ranges, lush vegetation, lakes, and fauna, and the friendly villages and towns, offer an unparalleled tourist experience to its visitors. It has everything – quality accommodation, topnotch restaurants, transport facilities, recreational opportunities, and every aspect that one expects in a getaway destination: serenity, refreshing climate, and above all, natural beauty in abundance. During winter, Bohinj and its surrounding slopes turn into a skiing/winter sports paradise.
Finally, Bovec is known for its proximity to the mind blogging splendor called the
Soča
Valley, the valley of emerald river, and a popular adventure destination. The place is famous for water sports – such as kayaking, canoeing and rafting – as well as paragliding, hang-gliding or cycling, and many mountaineering and hiking trails. Accommodation facilities are available in the nearby towns of Kobarid and Tolmin also alongside Bovec.
